Sandbach Makers Market

Located in Sandbach, Cheshire.

Sandbach Makers Market takes place on Market Square in the historic centre of Sandbach — a Cheshire market town with one of the finest medieval market squares in the North West, anchored by two remarkable Saxon stone crosses that have stood in the square for over a thousand years. Bringing The Makers Market's programme of artisan traders, food producers and live music to this exceptional setting gives the event a sense of continuity with the town's long market tradition.

Expect handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, textiles, homeware, art and gifts alongside artisan food and drink — local bakers, cheese and preserve producers, speciality drinks and small-batch food makers whose quality is matched by the quality of the venue around them. Live music completes the picture, making Sandbach Market Square on market day one of the most enjoyable public spaces in Cheshire East.

Free to attend monthly in Sandbach, the market is accessible by bus from Crewe and the surrounding area and is within easy driving distance from across south Cheshire, north Staffordshire and south Manchester. The cobbled square and the town's independent shops and pubs make it easy to turn the market into a proper half-day out.

About this area

Sandbach is a market town in Cheshire East, situated in the Cheshire Plain between Crewe and Holmes Chapel. The town's most celebrated feature is Market Square — one of the finest medieval market squares in the North West — which is home to two elaborately carved Saxon stone crosses dating from the ninth century. These remarkable carved monuments, which stand over four metres tall, are among the most significant examples of early medieval stone carving in England.

The town centre around Market Square has retained a good range of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs that make it a genuinely pleasant place to spend time. The historic buildings surrounding the square give the town a well-preserved medieval character that provides an excellent backdrop for the weekly market that has operated here for centuries.

Sandbach is situated close to junction 17 of the M6 motorway, giving it good road connections to Manchester, Liverpool, Crewe and the Potteries. The town is served by bus from Crewe and Middlewich, and the wider Cheshire East area is easily explored by car — with Congleton, Knutsford and Nantwich all within a short drive.
