Knutsford Makers Market

Located in Knutsford, Cheshire.

Knutsford Makers Market takes place on Princess Street — the elegant main thoroughfare of one of Cheshire's most celebrated and distinctive market towns — bringing The Makers Market's monthly programme of artisan traders, food producers and live music to a setting that feels made for exactly this kind of event. Knutsford has the independent quality, the community character and the visitor draw to make a well-curated artisan market feel entirely at home.

The stall mix is strong throughout the year: handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, textiles, homeware, art and gifts alongside artisan food and drink — local bakers, cheese and preserve producers, speciality drinks and small-batch food makers whose quality matches the expectations of a discerning Knutsford crowd. Live music adds to the already pleasant experience of being on Princess Street on a market day.

Free to attend monthly in Knutsford town centre, the market is accessible by rail from Manchester Piccadilly and Altrincham. Tatton Park — one of the National Trust's finest estate properties — is just a mile from the town centre and combines perfectly with a market day for a quintessential Cheshire day out.

“We had a nice Sunday lunch which my husband had booked for my birthday. The staff is warm and friendly and we had a nice vegetarian Chef’s menu. Portion size is like tapas but with 5 different types of dishes and a dessert, it was quite enough and left us full. Really liked the parsnip risotto,...”

About this area

Knutsford is a historic market town in Cheshire East, widely associated with Elizabeth Gaskell, who was raised here and used the town as the basis for her novel Cranford. The town centre is one of the most architecturally interesting in Cheshire, with a remarkable collection of buildings designed by the architect Richard Harding Watt in an Italianate and Arts and Crafts style that gives parts of Knutsford a uniquely distinctive appearance.

Princess Street and King Street together form the commercial heart of Knutsford, lined with independent boutiques, restaurants, delis, cafes and antique shops that have made the town a popular destination for shoppers from across Cheshire and south Manchester. The town has a particularly strong food and drink reputation, with a cluster of quality independent restaurants and bars alongside a thriving weekly market.

Tatton Park, just a mile to the north of the town centre, is one of the National Trust's most visited properties in the North West — a 2,000-acre estate with a neo-classical hall, Japanese garden, farm and extensive parkland. Knutsford is served by rail from Manchester Piccadilly via the Mid-Cheshire Line, with a journey time of around 35 minutes.

“These gardens are gorgeous! The walled gardens were full of fruit ready to be picked for the Harvest festival. The Japanese garden is a gem well worth a visit. We managed to get to the centre of the maze and found the fern green house, the door is tucked away in the corner but make sure you go an...”
