Bolton Makers Market

Located in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Bolton Makers Market takes place on Newport Street in Bolton town centre, bringing The Makers Market's programme of artisan traders, food producers and live music to one of Greater Manchester's largest and most central market towns. Monthly and free to attend, it's a market that fits naturally into Bolton's long-standing market tradition — a new, independent layer added to a town that has always been built around the idea of people coming together to trade.

The stall mix delivers handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, textiles, homeware, gifts and art alongside artisan food and drink — local bakers, hot food traders, speciality preserves and drinks from makers across the North West. Live music runs throughout the event, giving it an atmosphere that extends well beyond the stalls and makes the market a destination in its own right.

Free to attend monthly in Bolton town centre, the market is easily reached by rail from Manchester Victoria and the surrounding area. Bolton's own town centre — with its covered markets, independent food quarter and the cultural zone around the Octagon Theatre — offers plenty more to keep you occupied before and after the market.

About this area

Bolton is a large market town and metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester, set in the foothills of the West Pennine Moors between Manchester and the Lancashire textile belt. The town's history is rooted in cotton spinning — the spinning jenny was developed in the area in the 1760s — and the legacy of the textile industry shaped both the physical landscape of Bolton and the character of its communities through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Today Bolton is undergoing significant investment and regeneration, with the town centre seeing new leisure, cultural and retail development alongside a growing independent food and drink scene. The town has a strong sporting identity — Bolton Wanderers FC and Bolton Rugby Union Club both have significant local followings — and a well-used parks and leisure network that includes Queen's Park, one of the finest Victorian parks in Greater Manchester.

The West Pennine Moors rise steeply above Bolton to the north, with Rivington Pike and Lever Park providing outstanding countryside within a few miles of the town centre. Bolton is served by rail from Manchester Victoria and is well connected by bus across the Greater Manchester network.
