Eccles Artisan Market

Located in Eccles, Greater Manchester.

Eccles Artisan Market brings Independent Street's programme of independent makers and artisan traders to Eccles town centre on selected dates through the year — two dates in 2026, in July and October. It's a compact but well-curated event that makes the most of Eccles' excellent Metrolink connections and its position between Manchester city centre and the wider Salford area, drawing visitors who know how to combine a good market with a proper day out.

Expect handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, textiles, gifts and homeware alongside artisan food and drink traders — local bakers, freshly prepared hot food, preserves and speciality produce that give the market a distinctly independent flavour. The two dates make it well worth planning ahead to catch — once you've been once, you'll have it saved in your calendar for next time.

Free to attend and less than fifteen minutes by Metrolink from Manchester city centre, Eccles Artisan Market is one of the easiest IS market visits to make from across Greater Manchester. Check the Independent Street calendar for the July and October 2026 dates and keep an eye on future seasons as the programme at Eccles continues to grow.

About this area

Eccles is a town in the City of Salford, Greater Manchester, with a history rooted in textiles and engineering and a character that is distinctly working-class and community-minded. It is best known across the UK as the birthplace of the Eccles cake — the distinctive flaky pastry filled with currants that has been made in the town for over two centuries and remains a proud part of its identity. The town centre sits on the A57 at the junction of several key routes between Manchester and the M602.

The wider Salford area in which Eccles sits has undergone one of the most dramatic transformations of any English city-region in recent decades. MediaCityUK — home to BBC North, ITV Studios and a growing cluster of creative and digital businesses — is just minutes away in Salford Quays, and the Imperial War Museum North, the Lowry theatre and Salford Quays itself are all easily accessible from Eccles by Metrolink.

On the western edge of the town, Eccles meets the ancient Chat Moss peatland — a nationally important wetland and historic landscape that played a role in the development of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. Eccles Metrolink stop is served by multiple tram routes giving direct access to Manchester Piccadilly, MediaCityUK, Altrincham, Bury and the Airport line.
