Ashton Artisan Market

Located in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.

Ashton Artisan Market launched in 2026 as one of Independent Street's newest monthly markets, taking place on the third Sunday of each month in the heart of Ashton-under-Lyne town centre. It brings together a carefully curated mix of independent makers, artisan food producers and creative traders to one of Tameside's best-connected market towns — a monthly gathering that gives people a genuine reason to spend a Sunday in Ashton.

Stalls vary month to month but consistently deliver handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, textiles, homeware, gifts and art alongside artisan food and drink — local bakers, freshly prepared hot food, speciality preserves and drinks you won't find on the high street. The rotating trader line-up keeps things fresh across the year, with new makers joining the programme alongside returning favourites building a loyal following.

Free to attend every third Sunday from July through December, Ashton Artisan Market is one of the most Metrolink-accessible markets in the Independent Street calendar. It's a market built for the community as much as for visitors — come for the makers, stay for the food, and see what Ashton's independent scene has to offer.

About this area

Ashton-under-Lyne is a historic market town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, with a proud trading tradition stretching back centuries. The town's Victorian market hall and open-air market square sit at its heart, and ongoing regeneration is bringing new energy and investment to its public spaces. Ashton is surrounded by the broader Tameside landscape of former mill towns and Pennine foothills, giving it a strong industrial heritage and a distinctly north-west character.

Stamford Park, a beautiful Victorian park with ornamental gardens and a boating lake, is just a short walk from the town centre and ideal for extending your visit before or after the market. The Ashton Canal and the foothills of the Pennines are within easy reach for those who want to explore further, and the wider Tameside borough connects to Saddleworth and the Pennine fringes.

Ashton benefits from excellent transport connections including Metrolink tram services direct from Manchester city centre and Piccadilly, making it one of the most accessible market towns in the region. The town is well served by bus routes across Tameside and is easily combined with a visit to neighbouring towns such as Stalybridge or Mossley.
