Earlestown Artisan Market

Located in Earlestown, Merseyside.

Earlestown Artisan Market launched in 2026, bringing Independent Street's award-winning programme to the newly renovated Earlestown Market on Market Street, Newton-le-Willows. Working in partnership with St Helens Council, the market is part of a wider effort to breathe new life into this historic covered market space — and from the outset it has delivered exactly what the town centre needed: independent makers, artisan food, live music and a genuine community event.

Running from 11am to 4pm on selected Sundays from September through December, the market brings together local makers selling handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, gifts, textiles and homeware alongside artisan food and drink traders offering local produce, baked goods and speciality fare. Live music runs throughout the day, giving the whole event a warm, community celebration feel that goes well beyond a standard artisan market.

Free to attend, Earlestown Artisan Market is easily reached by rail from Liverpool, Manchester and Warrington. The November date doubles as a Christmas light switch-on event — making it one of the most festive entries in the 2026 Independent Street calendar — with the December market rounding out the year in style.

About this area

Earlestown is a historic town within Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, with a remarkable place in British industrial history. It was here that locomotive manufacturing first took hold in the 1830s, and the Vulcan Foundry — which produced locomotives for railways across the world — put Earlestown firmly on the map during the Victorian era. That heritage remains woven into the fabric of the town, from its Victorian architecture to the famous Sankey Viaduct — the Nine Arches — a breathtaking railway viaduct that crosses the historic Sankey Canal on the edge of town.

Today Earlestown is part of the St Helens Borough and is undergoing renewed investment and community regeneration, with the restoration of Earlestown Market — a covered Victorian market building on Market Street — at the heart of the town's revival. The area benefits from the support of St Helens Council and a strong community identity that has always known how to pull together around local events and civic pride.

Earlestown station sits on the Liverpool to Manchester line and offers direct rail connections to both city centres, as well as to Warrington Bank Quay. The Sankey Valley Park, a linear green corridor following the course of the Sankey Canal, provides walking and cycling from the town into the wider landscape. Newton-le-Willows and the surrounding villages of Burtonwood, Haydock and Winwick are all within easy reach.
