Southport Artisan Market

Presented by Independent Street at Southport Artisan Market, Southport, Merseyside.

Southport Artisan Market takes place on the first Saturday of every month in Southport town centre, bringing Independent Street's curated programme of independent makers and artisan food traders to one of the North West's finest seaside settings. Monthly and free to attend, it sits naturally within Southport's long tradition as a destination for a day out — a market that feels exactly right for a town that has always known how to welcome visitors properly.

The trader line-up changes month to month but consistently delivers handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, textiles, homeware, art and gifts alongside artisan food and drink — local bakers, cheese and preserve producers, freshly prepared hot food and speciality drinks from makers who take quality seriously. The relaxed atmosphere makes it an easy and enjoyable way to spend a Saturday morning, and with Lord Street, the seafront and the pier all within easy walking distance, the market fits neatly into a full Southport day.

Free to attend on the first Saturday of every month from June through December, Southport Artisan Market is served by Merseyrail from Liverpool Central — one of the most pleasant train journeys in the North West. Come for the market, stay for the beach, and see why Southport has been drawing visitors from across Merseyside and Lancashire for over 150 years.

About this area

Southport is a Victorian seaside resort on the Merseyside coast, developed from the early nineteenth century as a fashionable destination for the growing industrial populations of Liverpool and Lancashire. Its wide, tree-lined boulevards and elegant period architecture give it a character unlike anywhere else in the North West, and Lord Street — the celebrated shopping boulevard with its distinctive glazed verandas — is frequently described as one of England's finest Victorian commercial streets.

The town's seafront, though separated from the sea by the famous sandbanks that make the tide notoriously distant, offers a Marine Lake for watersports, a Victorian pier, extensive sand dunes and beaches stretching towards the Sefton Coast. The Botanic Gardens, Victoria Park and the town's multiple parks give Southport a green character that complements its coastal setting. The town is also the home of the Royal Birkdale Golf Club, one of the world's most prestigious links courses.

The Sefton Coast to the south of Southport is a nationally important nature reserve managed by Natural England and the National Trust, encompassing the Formby red squirrel reserve, extensive sand dunes and the remarkable Formby Point. Southport is served by Merseyrail with frequent direct trains from Liverpool Central, making it one of the most accessible seaside destinations in the North West for visitors without a car.
