Burnley Artisan Market takes place on the first Saturday of every month in Burnley town centre, bringing Independent Street's curated programme of independent makers and artisan food traders to East Lancashire every month without fail. It's a market that has established itself quickly as a reliable fixture in the local calendar — the kind of event where people plan their first Saturday around it rather than the other way around.

Stalls vary across the year but consistently deliver handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, textiles, homeware, gifts and art alongside artisan food and drink — local bakers, cheese and preserve producers, freshly prepared hot food and speciality drinks. The rotating trader line-up means there's always something new to discover alongside the makers who have built up a loyal following month after month.

Free to attend on the first Saturday of every month from June through December, Burnley Artisan Market is straightforward to reach by rail from Manchester Victoria and Preston. Burnley is a proud Lancashire mill town set in the Calder Valley at the foot of the Pennines, with a rich industrial heritage rooted in the cotton weaving industry that shaped the town through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The museum and art gallery occupy beautifully preserved period rooms, with knowledgeable volunteer guides on hand throughout. The surrounding parkland, woods and café make for a lovely extended visit — though parking is charged.

Volunteer guides bring the cotton industry vividly to life with working looms in action. Small café and shop on site. Open Wednesday to Saturday.
